ARC Review: Restrain Me – Michelle Heard (Corrupted Royals #4)

From USA Today & Wall Street Journal bestselling author Michelle Heard comes a new STANDALONE, full-length BRATVA/BODYGUARD ROMANCE novel.

My hobbies consist of shopping, eating, and sleeping. Yeah, I know, it doesn’t sound like I have much going for me, but what is a girl to do when she has an overbearing father who doesn’t allow her to be anything but a socialite?

I’m used to being in the spotlight, but when my father starts getting threats on my life, he hires a bodyguard.

Maxim Levin, the Russian God with intense eyes and a face carved from stone. I don’t think the man has ever cracked a smile. He’s domineering, broody, and scary as hell.

The more time I spend with him, the more his secrets come to light.
Turns out he’s not just a regular bodyguard.
My father hired an assassin.
An Assassin! Aka, a man who unalives people for a living.

Maxim has one more secret yet to be uncovered, and when I finally crack the hard shell of his unforgiving exterior, I’m in for the shock of my life.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Restrain Me is the fourth thrilling story in the Corrupted Royals mafia romance series. I adore this series and each book gets better and better.

Michelle Heard writes mafia romance that is seamless to enjoy. I fall straight into these stories and become immediately hooked–by the characters, the fictional world, the storyline, and of course, the writing.

I don’t want to reveal too much about the storyline since it’s one you should read to find out more, but the key points are:

– Max is an assassin who takes on a bodyguard assignment as a favour.
– Camille is a not-so-typical socialite and Max’s new charge.
– Sunshine & Grump trope with lots of fun banter.
– Mafia romance, therefore has dark themes. However, I found Restrain Me to be much lighter than her other books in the series. Please check trigger warnings beforehand, though!
– Fun cameos from the previous books’ main characters, which made me want to reread the series.
– Camille is an absolute delight and someone I want to be friends with!

As previously mentioned, Heard has a way of writing that completely hooks me in and makes it near impossible to put the book down. I adore dark romances and mafia romances, which Heard delivers every time. Restrain Me still had similar dark mafia romance feels but in a slightly lighter way, which was a nice change of pace.

Although this series interconnects, each book can be read as a standalone. So, I would absolutely recommend this as a starting point for anyone who’s interested in starting mafia romance or “dark romance” but doesn’t want to start with anything too dark or heavy.

Overall, a great read!
