Bookish Post, tips and tricks

Cheap Reads and Cozy Vibes

Love a good bargain? I have some reading specials to share with you!

Late last year, I wrote a blog post about ways to access free or cheap books in an effort to promote legal and ethical alternatives to book piracy (please don’t pirate books!). I also recently wrote a how-to guide on becoming a book reviewer that discusses platforms and options available for reviewers to share their book thoughts as well as where to find books to review!

As such, I wanted to share some deals I recently came across that could potentially save you some money — because there’s nothing better than enjoying a hobby without worrying about keeping costs low.

First things first, however: the disclaimer.

Disclaimer: This blog post contains some affiliate links. If you choose to purchase the products through the links provided, I may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you.

Amazon Prime is currently offering a 30-day free trial! I believe this is only available for new members, but it’s a great way to save money on shipping for books and other products. As an Amazon Prime member, you’ll get access to free, fast shipping on a huge selection of products. Who doesn’t love free shipping?

Other benefits for Amazon Prime members include:

1) Exclusive deals (save $$$)
2) Prime Reading (FREE books)
3) Prime Video (an alternative to Netflix/Disney+/Binge)
4) Amazon Music (ad-free music & podcasts)
5) Prime Gaming (free in-game content & Twitch subscription)
6) and more

Amazon Prime Student is offering a 6-month trial for new members! After the 6-month trial period is over, Amazon Prime students will only have to pay half the monthly price. Score! Unfortunately, I think this offer is only available for US residents due to the textbook rental program included, but double check your region’s Amazon to confirm.

What are the benefits?

1) Fast, free delivery
2) Prime Reading
3) Textbook rental
4) Free Kindle Unlimited trial for 2 months
5) Prime Video, Prime Gaming, Amazon Music
6) Exclusive deals
7) Showtime deal ($0.99/month for 1 year!)

Kindle Unlimited regularly offers a 30-day free trial for new members! As a KU member, you’ll get access to so many wonderful indie authors and the ebooks they sell exclusively on Amazon. If you’re not familiar with KU, it’s a subscription service where you can borrow ebooks (like a library) in the KU program and return them when you’re finished reading.

The best part? There’s no time limit for how long you can borrow them nor do you have to wait for someone to return the book, which is great if you’re a slower reader or not currently in the mood to read a book but know you’ll want to read it later.

Another bonus? You don’t have to feel bad about DNF’ing a book you weren’t vibing with because you can immediately return the book and choose something else. No need to feel guilt over spending money on a book you don’t want to finish. If you decide to continue your subscription after the free trial period, you’ll pay a flat rate for the whole month and can read as many KU books as you’d like during that month. If you choose to cancel, any KU books you’re storing will be automatically returned at the end of your subscription period. Easy!

If you’re in the market for a new Kindle, the following Kindle e-readers are offering 3 months of Kindle Unlimited for free. Please note: these deals may only be available to US residents.

Kindle Paperwhite (8 GB) | Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition (32 GB)
Kindle Oasis (8 GB) | Kindle Oasis (32 GB)
Kindle 2019 (8 GB)

Audible is offering a 2-month free trial for new members. If you love audiobooks, this is a great way to score a couple of free books to listen to! Also if you’re a Prime member, you’ll get an additional credit to use in your first month! Hello, extra book!

Now these next few deals are subscription boxes that focus more on the reading experience (because readers around the world know that reading goes hand-in-hand with being cozy).

Don’t forget to check available shipping options on the items below and do your research on the companies/reviews!

If you enjoy a nice cup of tea while reading…

Tea Sparrow | Vahdam | Simple Loose Leaf Tea Company
La Tea Dah | The Tea Collective

If a fun pair of socks is more your vibe…

Sock Fancy | Foot Cardigan | Philosockphy | Get Socked | Soxy Beast

If you think scented candles & books are a great combo…

The Candle Club | Club Candle | The Candle Library

Hopefully this post helped you take advantage of some great offers, or at the very least, got you thinking about your own cozy reading habits. Personally, I love reading with a cup of tea or coffee, a snack, and a comfy cushion/pillow. If it’s cold, I’ll add some fun socks and a soft throw blanket. And if I really want to embrace the cozy self-care vibes, I’ll get out some soy-based scented candles.

Let me know in the comments below how you like to read!
