ARC Review: Destroy Me – Michelle Heard (Corrupted Royals #1)

Coming soon from USA Today & Wall Street Journal bestselling author Michelle Heard, a new STANDALONE, full-length MAFIA ROMANCE novel.

Our first meeting was at a nightclub, and it was something straight out of my most romantic fantasies.
My ovaries exploded at the sight of the Russian God. And by God, I mean he was ripped, tall, dark, and deadly attractive. There were enough sparks between us to light up a city.
Then an explosion blasted through the nightclub, and we got trapped together for three hours, sharing our most personal details… everything but our names.

Two years later, our second meeting is the complete opposite of the first. It’s clear Misha Petrov, a Russian enforcer for the bratva, despises me. The emotional night we shared meant nothing to him.
You see, my family is sworn enemies with the bratva and Italian mafia, which means Misha considers me a threat.
I wish I could hate him the way he hates me. But nooo, my stupid heart wants what it wants.
Every rough touch from Misha makes my skin tingle.
Every low-rumbling threat growled through his clenched teeth has my breath speeding up.
We might be sworn enemies, but I can’t stop myself from wanting this dangerous man.

Then there’s the other problem.
If I can, by some miracle, get Misha to fall in love with me, we’ll only have to face the entire bratva and my family.
What could possibly go wrong?

STANDALONE: A Mafia/Bratva Romance, standalone, full-length novel.

A mafia romance set in a training school for the underworld’s elite? Sign me up.

If you love mafia romance or Michelle Heard’s other mafia series, you need to jump on this one immediately. The two MCs are a little younger (early 20s) so it does have a slight NA feel to it, but that only adds to the drama and thrills that comes with an action-packed, exhilarating mafia romance.

Now, would I ever want to personally step foot in St Monarch’s? Probably not. They teach all sorts of deadly and dangerous classes. But getting to read about St Monarch’s, its attendees/trainers, and the classes they provide? I am here for it.

St Monarch’s is a training school where members of different underworld groups come to improve their skills before taking on bigger roles within their factions. It might be the only neutral territory in the world, but that doesn’t mean everyone gets along… or that they’re entirely safe.

This setting was definitely new for me and I enjoyed it. It was fun seeing these young mafia women go from being naive “socialites” to strong, independent and well-trained. While I loved Aurora’s journey in Destroy Me, I’m looking forward to seeing more of Abbie in book two.

While Misha and Aurora’s relationship felt more insta-love in the beginning, I really enjoyed seeing the two develop their relationship further and learn more about each other. It was through Misha’s motivation and encouragement that Aurora was able to learn perseverance and build on her strengths (as well as overcoming her weaknesses). It also felt paced really well despite their time at St Monarch’s being a reasonably short time.

Overall, a really great read and fantastic intro to what I believe will be an amazing series. I’m slowly working my way through MH’s backlist, and so far, I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve read. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mafia romance or wants to dip their toes into the mafia romance world.
