Review: For 100 Days – Lara Adrian (100 Series #1)

Rating 4 Stars

What’s the book about?
Pleasure has a price

Just when everything in my life is falling apart, I find a chance to turn it around–to step into someone else’s glittering world, if only for a little while. I become someone new, no longer the woman defined by an ugly past, but a woman freer and bolder than myself. A woman who isn’t afraid to explore every passion, even at its darkest, with a mysterious and seductive man who believes my mask is real.

Handsome and commanding, enigmatic and irresistible, billionaire Dominic Baine is an obsession I cannot afford and should not risk. He ushers me into consuming new pleasures and addicting new desires, until the line between my real life and the fantasy one I’ve stolen with him begins to blur.

I know I cannot keep my truth from him. I know my past will not stay buried forever. But before I can make it right, everything comes crashing down. I have deceived this powerful, dangerous man . . . and now there is a price to be paid.

My Review
I’ve always enjoyed Lara Adrian’s vampire romance series, Midnight Breed, so I was particularly interested to hear she’d written a fun, seductive contemporary romance series based on a heroine down on her luck and an enigmatic hero with secrets of his own.

To sum this one up briefly: I found this highly entertaining!

For the longer review, where do I begin? The heroine was an interesting character with many hidden depths. She hasn’t had the best of luck for most of her life and because of her unfortunate background, she’s learnt from a young age to always be on her guard, not rely on anyone and to work hard to survive. She’s had a tough road but she continually tries to keep her head up.

The hero is the typical tall, dark and handsome, rich alpha with secrets up to his eyeballs… so you know I was immediately hooked! This roguish hero introduces the heroine to a whole new world and it was so fun to watch them both change and grow. The heroine learns to let people in, accept help from others and take chances in her life. Vice versa, the hero learns to let someone in as well and take into considerations someone else’s feelings, likes and dislikes, and overall wellbeing. The perpetual bachelor has met his match.

For 100 Days is book one in a trilogy (although the series does extend to include additional side characters as the new leads). This book mainly focuses on the building of their relationship and certain aspects of the heroine’s upbringing, so if you like character-driven books like myself, you’ll enjoy this one a lot. But for those who like plot-focused stories with lots of action, don’t worry because book two, For 100 Nights, is where things really start to pick up. As always Lara Adrian’s writing and storytelling ability is addictive and I found myself immediately hooked into this story. If you enjoy intense and seductive contemporary romances, you should definitely check this book out!
