ARC Review: Diamond in the Rough – Skye Warren

My Review
Diamond in the Rough is book one in a trilogy and focuses on the heroine, Holly, as she searches for her missing sister overseas. At the beginning of her journey though, she faces every woman’s nightmare of being kidnapped in a white van with a dark hood thrown over her head. From there, she must learn to embrace her inner strength and resilience to overcome the darkness lurking in every corner.

This story was so action packed and character driven. Both the heroine and (anti)hero were complex, detailed and thoroughly three-dimensional, and as the story unfolded I could see how the characters grew and changed. Since it’s book one, I can only imagine what is going to happen by the end of their story.

As previously mentioned, this book is full of action. Right from the beginning, I was on the edge of my seat needing to know what happened next. One thing I did notice, and I’m not sure if it was intentional or not, was that some scenes felt almost like they were in a dream-like state. The heroine is an author with a vivid imagination though so I spent a lot of time wondering if the certain events were actually occurring or if it was simply the heroine’s way of escaping the harsh realities around her. Either way, very thrilling!

It states in the blurb that this is a trilogy with cliffhangers – so fair warning! But if you’re anything like me, the cliffhanger is not a deciding factor on reading the next book. Even if there was no cliffhanger ending, I would still want to get my hands on Gold Mine (next book coming 15 Sep)!

As always, Skye Warren has written another fantastic story and if you like dark romances with second chances, twisted motives and a mysterious trail to follow, you need to read this one!
