Rating 4.5 Stars

Happy Release Day to this wonderful new book by S Young! As a special treat, the author has kindly given me permission to share with you all an exclusive excerpt from the book. It’s going to be in a separate post a little later today so keep an eye out for that around 9am EST! You won’t want to miss it!

What’s the book about?
Fionn Mór was once a high king of Ireland; a fierce warrior who led his tribes against the invading fae. It was a war he couldn’t win and to save his family he turned consort for the Fae Queen. Fionn escaped as the thing he once despised, and the people he loved betrayed him for it. Now, centuries later, it’s time to reopen the gates to Faerie to take his revenge against the Faerie Queen.

At sixteen Rose Kelly discovered family secrets that changed her forever. Years after, she’s still lost, traveling across Europe in search of that elusive missing ‘something’. When she’s attacked by a vampire, not only is she wrenched into a supernatural underworld she never knew existed, a knock on the head releases a spell on her mind and unlocks powers beyond her wildest imaginings. And with them more questions. Questions Fionn Mór claims to have answers to.

Following the powerful and enigmatic Fionn to Ireland, Rose quickly realizes she’s a pawn in his plan for vengeance. What begins as a passionate battle of wills leads to an inexplicable but undeniable connection. One that will force them to face an impossible choice between the deepest love… and the darkest revenge.

My Review
As you can probably tell from my reading history, I’ve been on quite a contemporary romance kick for a while but have been wanting to get back into the paranormal genre. Kiss of Vengeance was the perfect reintroduction to pnr romance and I simply couldn’t get enough!

Young has created these strong, complex and passionate characters that you can’t help but love from the get-go. The heroine, Rose, gets thrown into the deep end of this new mystical world and rather than freak out, she sees it as a new adventure and the opportunity to take charge of her future. She even found the humorous side of some pretty scary situations; able to throw out a couple of sarcastic remarks and I absolutely loved that! As a heroine, this gal was a solid 10!

The hero, Fionn, was more mysterious with his secretive background and need to enact revenge on those he felt had wronged him. I love a strong, stubborn hero and Fionn was all that and more. He could deny his feelings and turn a blind eye to his connection with Rose all he wants but we all know that’s not going to last! When they finally get together, it’s explosive and passionate and as all-consuming as you’d expect from two characters as headstrong as Rose and Fionn.

Then there was the actual storyline… Between the revenge plot, new mystical world, and travelling around avoiding the bad guys, the adventure that Young created was absolutely wild and so, so thrilling. You get the perfect balance of adventure, action, romance and magic. Honestly, I needed more and cannot wait to see what Young creates further in this series!*

As a little bonus point, I just want to point out how much I loved all the Gaelic language thrown into this book. I have a huge fascination with the Gaelic languages and cultures, and thoroughly enjoyed having a pronunciation guide at the beginning of the book.

*Also her contemporary books because I’m such a huge fan of her work.
